Chex Party Mix

Yield: 9 cups

  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 1/4 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • 4 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 cups Corn Chex
  • 2 cups Rice Chex
  • 2 cups Wheat Chex
  • 1 1/2 cup salted mixed nuts
  • 1 1/2 cup pretzels
Preheat oven to 250 degrees.

Heat butter in a large, shallow roasting pan in oven until melted.

Stir in seasoned salt and Worcestershire sauce.  Add Chex, nuts, and pretzels.

Heat for one hour in the oven, stirring every fifteen minutes.

Spread on paper towels to cool.  This recipe freezes well.

Dad's alternate method:
Melt butter or margarine in the microwave.  Stir in seasonings, and mix with the Chex, pretzels, and nuts in a very large bowl.  Spread onto a foil-lined baking sheet.

Broccoli salad

From: Wayne
  • 1 bunch (2 heads) broccoli
  • 1/2 c chopped onion - we always use green onions (scallions) instead
  • 1/2 c raisins (optional) (in our house, forbidden)
  • 1/2 lb fried bacon, crumbled
  • Dressing:
    • 1/2 c Miracle Whip
    • 1/4 c sugar
Clean and cut up broccoli, discarding the stems.  We're just using the florets, here.

In a bowl, combine the sugar and the Miracle Whip.  Stir until the sugar is dissolved.

In a large bowl, toss together the broccoli, onions, bacon, and dressing.  Chill before serving.

Let's get started

So, it's Christmas. Mom had to work today, and I'm helping dad prepare Christmas dinner.

Having just spent twenty minutes going through (twice) an ancient collection of recipes on cards housed haphazardly in two recipe boxes, I knew there had to be a better way.

Of course there is!
